The old cement factory in Asland, Catalonia was built in 1904 and is located on a slope of the Catalan Pyrenees, because at that time it was possible to mine coal and harness hydroelectric power. For economic reasons, the factory stopped production in 1974 and remained abandoned for more than 20 years. In 1996 the government of Catalonia bought the factory and converted the lower part into a museum. The upper part of the factory is still in a ruinous state today. The design concept proposes a new use of the former cement factory as a technology center for agriculture and forestry.

Such a use is needed in the region and it would mean a significant upgrade for the place. The technology centre not only offers extensive premises as a training facility, but also serves leisure activities such as a restaurant, a library and the museum. The new centre of the training centre and the entire ensemble is the large greenhouse. From a thermal point of view, the glass roof acts as a heat reservoir for the surrounding rooms. For the research facility, the greenhouse means a unique opportunity to grow plants.
