The guiding principle of the design is to create a building for the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation that is both open and transparent to society and internally inspires its staff to work together, regardless of the different functional areas. Thus, the design does not focus on a strict hierarchy, but promotes internal and external communication.
Four levels, each with two storeys and an upper end for light shows and advertising space, are shifted in relation to each other and form projections and recesses that can be used as roofing and terraces.
The urban, dynamic form of the cubature directs the movements towards the new town square and allows the building to constantly reappear from different perspectives.
Through the play of the slats, the building changes at different times of the year or day and symbolises the diverse society and its need for constant change.
The interior design is articulated by a light-flooded atrium, which brings sufficient natural light into the rooms via skylight strips down to the ground floor. Particularly important are the common team areas for staff and external guests, which are arranged centrally around the atrium and are visible from all floors. These team areas are either closed, sound-insulated boxes that project into the atrium or they are open communication spaces with different characters.
